Australian icon, singer and songwriter JOHN WILLIAMSON will officially mark his 40th year in the industry through two (2) scheduled performances at the Sydney Opera House, accompanied by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and special guests. 

 

The live performances, on Friday October 29th 2010 and a matinee performance on Saturday 30th October will be delivered before what is expected to be capacity audiences.  Williamson will perform his biggest hits capturing our country, characters and spirit with new sounds and stories portrayed through the inclusion of the thirty two piece orchestra.

 

John Williamson has symbolized the spirit of Australia in poetry and song for the past four decades, but never before has his performance been delivered quite like this. With the Sydney Opera House as the backdrop, his work translated into orchestral scores performed by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, audiences can expect to see experience Australia's TRUE BLUE balladeer in an event to remember.

 

Call him what you want, 'Mallee Boy', 'True Blue' or just plain 'Fair Dinkum', there is no denying that after forty years in the music industry, John Williamson is an Australian icon. With three ARIA Awards, twenty-four  Golden Guitars, MO Awards, APRA Awards, Platinum and Gold albums, over four  million album sales and the list goes on . . . he has earned the title whether he likes it or not.

 

It was back on June 4th, 1970 that John Williamson made his name when his much loved 'silly song' OLD MAN EMU was released after he won the talent quest TV show, NEW FACES.  Since then he has inspired pride in country, love of land and touched millions regardless of age, sex or creed.

 

He has become the man famous for such stirring classics as COOTAMUNDRA WATTLE, RAINING ON THE ROCK,SALISBURY STREET, GALLERIES OF PINK GALAHS, A BUSHMAN CAN'T SURVIVE and controversial songs like RIP RIP WOODCHIP (1989) and A FLAG OF OUR OWN (1991). Let's not forget the patriotic anthems such as TRUE BLUE,ISLAND OFOCEANS, GLORY TO AUSTRALIA or the romantic ballads like WINTERGREEN, CHANDELIER OF STARS, and HAWKESBURY RIVER LOVIN' to name but a handful. Few can claim to have written such a large number of songs that inspire so many people in so many different ways.

 

His resume and catalogue of more than 350 songs would make any songwriter envious; not bad for a kid from Quambatook inVictoria's vallee country! In the past few decades he has been an inspirational presence at some of the most significant events inAustralia. The Sydney 2000 Olympics, Steve Irwin's memorial, the Bledlisloe Cup, Sir Donald Bradman's memorial, the Rugby World Cup, the first Bali Bombing memorial and the list goes on. He is ingrained inAustralia's history, as much as in its future.

 

 In 2010, John Williamson's music turns forty. He and his EMU can both proclaim a milestone in the entertainment industry, with the 2010 Sydney Opera House performances only a part of the major celebrations. In one of the toughest industries and businesses, he has not only survived but soared.
